Frazer

Really enjoyed drawing this Westie, below is my first layer of graphite

I then used a dark lead to darken the nose and eye and a rubber to bring out the highlights

Finally I filled in his collar and tweaked those hairy legs!

Hope you like!

New cow and calf drawing

After having the reference image for over a year, I finally drew the outline about a month ago but it got pushed to the back of my list, I have finally made a proper start this week. Hopefully it wont take me too long to get it finished

Here is my latest commission a cute dog named Daisy laid on the sofa. As you can see on the right is the reference photo I worked from, I found this piece quite difficult as there was little detail for me to work from but overall happy it looks like the photo

Red Grouse

Hello lovely readers, here is my red grouse that was a commission for a game keeper along with the flying duck, Ive posted a picture so you can see them framed. These were small sketches around A4 the actual drawing and in the frame measuring 32cmx42cm. I really enjoyed doing them on a small scale and they didn't take too long like my usual drawings, thinking a red squirrel is up next or maybe another hare as I haven't done one for a year, would be nice to see if I have come on in my drawing skill since then!

First Time

Here is my first go at a montage, although I'm happy with the result it was a struggle getting that very fine detail into the the dogs faces as my paper has a slight texture, in future I would opt for something very smooth!

Sitting Spaniel

Loved drawing this dog, this is the first one I've done with the whole body. The reference photo I had to draw from was great quality which allowed me to get in very delicate detail.
I used my favourite mechanic pencils for the very fine detail and my Mars Lumograph pencils to give the drawing depth and dark shading, without pressing too hard it gives an almost black shade without  leaving pencil marks on the paper. The drawing fit into a double mount with an oak frame measuring around A3- unfortunately I do not have a picture of the dog framed- was such a rush to get it to my client in time for christmas! Since then she has told me how very happy her daughter was to have received this drawing, which makes my job even more rewarding!!

Maisy

Happy new year everyone,
Im very happy to share with you 'Maisy', which I did for a christmas commission
The owners were very pleased with it and I must say I'm quite happy with it too, I think my progress of dog drawing is coming along nicely- which helps as I have a list as long as my arm to be getting on with!
